Corrie Nielsen AW’12 Collection

Currently there appears to be a hype for digital printing à la Mary Katrantzou and generally very colourful garments à la Meadham Kirchoff. There are, however, also other ways to make a garment outstanding and my personal pet favourite is garment construction ie. inventive pattern cutting. It has the ability  – if done well – to transform any fabric into a stunning and outlandish gown. Corrie Nielsen who has been last year’s winner of the prestigious Fashion Fringe Award did this.
She showcased her collection, which revolved around ‘the caricature of the silhouette’ at this London Fashion Week. Personally, I was particularly intrigued by her complicated structures on rather ‘boring’ fabrics and muted colours/ tartan patterns. A few of these constructions actually reminded me of Geiger even, in a kilt.. but that’s another story.
